Cleaning, Maintenance and Storage of Hard Body Armor Inserts

Taking care of body armor is important both to ensure it serves its purpose to protect and to guarantee warranty compliance.

CLEANING

ShotStop® body armor is coated with a water-proof, salt-water and chemical resistant, polyurea protective coating, similar to a truck bed liner, making cleaning a quick and easy process:

  1. Remove the plate from its carrier.

  2. Wipe with a damp, non-abrasive cloth using a mild soap and warm water solution.

(Do not machine wash, pressure wash, or dry-clean.)

  3. Dry with a soft cloth.

  4. Place back in the carrier.

MAINTENANCE

If the carrier vest gets wet, the inserts will not be affected; however, you can avoid the build-up of mold or mildew by removing and cleaning the inserts while allowing the carrier to completely dry before re-inserting them.

STORAGE

When not in use, rigid body armor inserts should be stored in a cool, dry location. Where possible, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and sustained temperatures of less than -5℉ (-15℃) or in excess of 100℉ (38℃). If operating in a warm-temperature environment, avoid leaving your armor in the trunk or inside a sealed vehicle:

At 70℉ (21℃) on a sunny day, after just thirty minutes, the temperature inside a sealed car rises to 104℉ (40℃). After an hour, it can reach 113℉ (45℃). When temperatures outside range from 80 to 100℉ (26-38℃), the temperature inside a car parked in direct sunlight can quickly climb to 130 to 172℉ (54-78℃).

Your body armor is a vital part of your equipment. Take care of it, and it will take care of you for the full warranty period.
